Well, if I ever go Downtown again I won't carry a purse or a backpack. I won't buy anything either!!!!

When these designer type backpacks became fashionable a few years ago as alternatives to handbags or purses, I was very sceptical and vowed I would never use one. The straps are so skinny and they can easily be pickpocketed. I know that they are popular because they keep the weight even on both shoulders and keep both hands free, but really they are not a good idea.

If you must walk carrying a backpack, make sure it looks like a kid's school backpack and keep your wallet, phone and keys in safe inside pockets of your coat. If you are carrying a laptop or ipod, don't advertise the fact. The older and more beaten up the backpack looks, the better.
