Amazing Challenge Day Program
Around Town, posted by Margie Lawrence, a resident of the Midtown neighborhood, on Oct 19, 2006 at 2:32 pm

We have an exciting event coming up at Menlo-Atherton High School on October 30 & 31st, called Challenge Days.

This is the third year that MAHS is offering the program to freshmen. The Challenge Day program is professionally run for high schools and is designed to unite the members of the incoming freshmen class. Participation will empower the students to develop the themes of compassion, acceptance, respect, communication and connection amongst themselves as a class and then carry those themes back into their academic classes and the entire school population at large. Students are divided into small groups of 5 students and are led through a series of bonding exercises designed to break down walls of separation between them.

This year faculty and counselors from around the Bay Area will be attending with the intent of taking this program back to their schools.

Another exciting happening is that the Challenge Organization will be highlighted on an upcoming Oprah Show segment in November.MAHS will be highlighted as one of the schools successfully utilizing this program.

www.challengeday.org. The home page is great! It will show you how this organization is moving across the country.

Question: How can we get reporters/photographers to attend this event and let the community know that positive, affirming, and uplifting events are happening at MAHS?

Please let me know your thoughts and how best to move forward.

> Thanks so much in advance for your time-

I am a former teacher at Paly. I am now the Activities Director at Carmel High School and so excited to be bringing a small group of CHS students and staff to Challenge Day at M-A. It sounds like a great program and we can't wait to be a part of it!
