I will admit I know nothing about how a car works. Can someone tell me how I would know if my catalytic wotsit was not there? Would I hear it, feel it, see it, smell it, or what lack thereof?

Woman Driver: its part of your exhaust system, and it comes before the muffler. If a thief removes your catalytic converter, you'll hear an incredibly loud noise when you turn on your car.

Coinflation covers these metal thefts pretty regularly. Sad to hear it coming to our town. Soon they will start stealing the sewer and drain covers as well.

> Soon they will start stealing the sewer and drain covers as well.

This has already happened in some of the more economically distressed cities in the Rust Belt.

The thieves fence this stuff to someone or some company. They should be held accountable for being in receipt of stolen goods. Until selling this metal for good money is stopped, stealing catalytic converters, copper wire and storm drain covers will continue.

The guys who are resposible for the thieving work hard to attain their goal..they have to get down on the ground, scoot on their backs on the dirty filthy hard and cold ground and manuver somewhat heavy equipment upside down to achieve their booty...Cheeze, these guys could make a lot of money legally doing this hard work and not have to be looking over their shoulders and risking jail time...let alone a black eye if I ever caught them under my car...............

There is a device on the market called the CatClamp that is supposed to prevent catalytic converter thefts. A buddy bought one and says he now has his peace of mind back.
