You sure can get info as it happens.

Go down to Fry's and buy an inexpensive Uniden radio scanner.

Plug in the following frequencies:

482.6125 MHz Palo Alto Police Main

482.8125 MHz Palo Alto Police Alt

153.7700 MHZ Palo Alto Fire

453.7000 MHz Palo Alto Public Works

Here is also a complete list including all counties in California.
