Paly schedule to remain the same next year

Original post made on May 5, 2008

Palo Alto High School's bell schedule, which some say regulates not just starting time but also teen sleep and health, will remain the same next year, according to the student news Web site The Paly Voice.

Hi, I'm Dan Schwartz from The Paly Voice. Thanks for the nod in the lede, but I would suggest linking to this story: Web Link instead. That one is actually the one you are referring to, and is much more up-to-date than the other.

Thanks!

I'm not surprised high school students in the U.S. do poorly when compared with other countries. Most European schools start at 9:00 AM and end at 4:00 PM with two hours of homework; that gives the kids another hour to sleep in the morning and time for a good breakfast. This is a much healthier way for teens to start the day.

The accent elsewhere in the world is on education only, not trying to give kids time for a job after school.

More excuses, more blame, more passing the buck. What did we expect from the Palo Alto Unified School District? It seems McEvoy fits right in with the way things are done around here. It also seems that the primary quality our kids are learning from their teachers and school administrators is CYA, instead of Do Your Best, which doesn't give our community or country a very promising outlook for the future.
