Crimes & Incidents, posted by Editor, Palo Alto Online, on Apr 14, 2008 at 5:39 pm

Todd Burpee pleaded not guilty to additional criminal charges Monday in an arraignment following his preliminary hearing last week, which included emotive testimony from victim "Jane Doe." Already facing charges of attempted murder and forcible sexual penetration, Burpee is now also charged with two counts of assault to commit a sex offense, assault with force and kidnapping for the purpose of committing a sex offense.

This matter is horrible, I hope the victim does not have to testify again.

I realize that the accused has a right to representation and a trial but given that he already admitted guilt to the police I do not understand why his lawyer did not go for some sort of plea bargain.

I hope the PAPD videotaped the confession.

What a nightmare.

the country is a nightmare that needs to awaken from, many official people are just as ''guilty''...

I'm also puzzled by the "not guilty" plea. The only thing I can think of is that his lawyer is going to challenge his confession as being coerced

What is the legal status of his girlfriend? is she being charged with aiding him?

I hope there is not going to be an OJ type defense in this matter.

Hey "c": get a life, loser. And learn how to spell.

The only shred of decency he might exhibit is sparing the victim from having to testify again.

Todd Burpee was a good human being however the evidence given and the nature of the crime the most obvious choice would be taking a deal of 25 years to life sadly
