HOOVER PARK: when will it re-open?

Original post made by Neighbor, Midtown, on Mar 23, 2008

Is the Hoover Park project complete? I read that they still have to install gates? Can the public use it now?

"What much was done in all that time?"

Infrastructure, mostly. New water lines, drainage system, walking path, baseball field backstop and new stands (too small!), Little League infield (done by LL), cement repair/grinding, dog run improvements. Not sexy, but necessary.

BTW, I talked to the LL guys last week. They put in new sod, and have attempted to close that infield, until the sod roots. They say that it will open at the end of the month. Please give them a break, by staying off the new infield (it is fenced).

The field is great, but the bleachers are very low, perhaps designed for little kids. When an adult sat in front of me, I could not see above the head. As for the bleachers behind home base, the front two rows give no view at all. As for the others, you seem to need to put your knees under your chin in the very front!!

Parent,

You are completely correct about the new bleachers. I don't know what the City was thinking, becasue they are built for little kids, only. Also, the new antique-looking water fountain does not work.

The new LL infield (built by LL) looks great, although is is still maturing, and growing in. However the outfield is still pretty rough, as usual (that is a City responsibility, not LL). I have recently seen some dog owners allowing their dogs to do their business on the LL outfield, which is very discourteous to the LL players. They now have a new dog run, and they should use it.
