Stanford baseball hosts College World Series champs

Cal State Fullerton would like to repeat what it did last season, when it swept Stanford to open the year and capped it by winning the College World Series. Stanford, on the other hand, would like to turn that scenario around starting this weekend when the Cardinal and Titans meet in a three-game series in Sunken Diamond starting Friday at 5 p.m.

Cal State Fullerton did not win the CWS last year. Oregon State did.

"Cardinal opens three-game series with former national champs with a big victory" does not mean DEFENDING national champs; it means "1. preceding in time; prior or earlier: during a former stage in the proceedings. 2. past, long past, or ancient." As we all know, Oregon State is the two-time defending national champs.
