I wish this law had been in effect when I was a kid. Both of my parents smoked in the car. Those long drives together during the summer were excruciating. It would take me a day in the mountain air, away from all the smokers, to clear my head.

The best day of my life happened when I bought my own car, and banned smoking for those inside it. I can recall pulling over once when my mother refused to put out her cigarette and telling her she could walk to her destination if she didn't stop smoking in my car. I HATE smoking!

This is good news. It was a long time coming.

I'm with Sue. I only had one parent that smoked, but his habit was gross and he was the only driver my family had at that time. I hated even going in the car because of the smoke and the filth from the ash. The worst part was that he expected me to clean the car, inside and out, to earn extra money, and that was the pits.

It prevented me from ever wanting to take a single puff, so perhaps there was a good side as I have never been tempted to smoke. Since my kids don't actually know any smokers that they see regularly, it is a lesson I hope they can learn someother way.

This is a joy which will be denied future generations--the right to do what you want in your own car!

Thanks to Joe Simitian and the rest of the "Nanny Democrats" .. more of our rights are being stolen from us every day.

I agree, "You-Won't-Miss." Smoking in your car is a bad idea, and doing it when others - especially kids is really bad. Do we really need to government to tell us that? How are they going to enforce this law? Its just more meaningless feel-good legislation. I'm going to write to Simitian to see if he'll sponsor a "There outta be less laws" contest.
I would certainly not lay nanny-laws at the feet of the dems - both parties are equally as bad. The repubs were the ones who brought us the first attempts at banning internet gambling.
