Wasn't this meeting supposed to be sometime this week?
What happened at the Tue. Nov. 28 meeting? Last night.
I don't understand why the meeting are held in N. Palo Alto always.
What happened at last nights meeting? At Jordan.
Why are the meetings always held in N. Palo Alto when much or most of the route is in S. Palo Alto?
Goodness gracious me.
I can't believe this North South divide. We have a meeting in Palo Alto, be grateful it is not in San Jose.
I think this meeting is important. We are lucky that the meeting exists and it should be well attended. Jordan Middle School is the venue, it has parking and most of us know where it is. Palo Alto is not so large that none of us can get to the meeting due to its location, true it is not as convenient to all as it is to some, but it is on or at least a bus route. We do not have as many meeting rooms available for an ad hoc meeting as many think and to be able to use Jordan is fine by me.
Please, let's think as Palo Altans, not as North or South.
Just to clarify - there was a meeting November 13th and the meeting after that was set for December 4th. However, VTA and PTC realized that landed on the first day (or night before) Hanukkah, so they rescheduled it for a later date - December 12th.
The City of Palo Alto has created a new web page with information about this issue. If you would like to see the route maps that VTA presented at the Nov. 13 Jordan Middle School meeting, they are posted at Web Link
These route maps are concepts, intended to elicit comment. At each meeting, VTA has presented some options that they developed using ridership, fare, destination/origin information, and other data as well as comments from the public in these meetings.
We can expect that the route concepts will be refined again in advance of the Planning & Transportation Commission meeting on December 12. After that VTA will take a recommendation to City Council on December 17 before they go back to the VTA Board with a recommendation.
Bus users are strongly encouraged to attend these meetings and weigh in on what you need. VTA has promised to listen.
The community bus concept they are proposing has some advantages. The community buses are smaller and, therefore, fares are lower. The small size of these buses also makes them quieter and more manueverable on neighborhood streets. For a lot of reasons, they are a nice fit in Palo Alto. They do have less capacity....which could be a problem for the morning and afternoon school commute times. However, VTA is proposing to provide additional "shadow" buses during those peak times to provide extra capacity for higher volumes of student riders.
These are good things. The question remains...what is the ideal route to maximize service to those who need it and boost VTA'S farebox recovery? How can we help VTA help us?
Show up. Tell them what you need.
Hope to see you on December 12.
Don't miss out on the discussion!
