Has anyone seen in-shell pasteurized eggs around here? I've seen them in Chicago, but can't find them at Safeway or Piazza's. I don't think I checked Whole Foods or Mollie Stone's.

They used to have them (a few years ago) at Trader Joe's. I haven't seen them around lately, but I'll be checking this thread to see if anyone has them.
Most of the things I would use them for are egg-white only, so for now I use dried egg whites.

I can verify that they don't have them at TJ's either. It seems like such a great idea since certain members of my family love eating raw cookie dough. The website for Davidson's brand of in-shell pasteurized eggs lists Von's and Pavillion's as retailers, but not Safeway which owns Vons.

A pity the LibLuds won't let us buy irradiation sterilized meat products. How many people will we let their idiocy kill before we value lives above their conceits?

I totally agree. Hopefully someday rational thought will prevail, but I wouldn't bet on it. I understand irradiation is another way to kill the salmonella in eggs.

Great news! Last night, I located the Davidson's In-Shell Pasteurized eggs at the Safeway on Shoreline in Mountain View. Its called "Bailey Park" shopping center - right near W. Middlefield.
I plan on making some raw cookie dough later this week - I'll let you all know if I get salmonella.

Congratulations, Fred. That's funny. I'm reading this thread for the first time (the forum's quiet today, eh?) and I have a belated suggestion. You know how the Safeway checkers usually ask, "Did you find everything you were looking for?" Tell them what you want. They're actually responsive, and so are the managers.

I have made these requests several times. They give you a postcard to fill out with your name and address and you can leave it there or send it yourself to Safeway regional office in Oakland. I have received responses each time, once with a phone call asking me exactly what item I was requesting, but usually with a letter telling me why the item I requested had stopped being carried. Although each time I didn't get them to do anything, at least I felt they had heard my request and if enough of us do this it may make a difference.
