Gary, you are absolutely right.
The day a certain Middle East person with the first initial of A, ( don't want to get deleted, an architect of terrorism just across the border from Israel, got the "Peace Prize" was the day I crossed the Nobel prizes off my list as having any validity.
They are as irrelevant to me now as the UN.
Start a "Freedom Prize" and a "United Democratic Nations" group, and I will see some relevance again.

LOL!! I think Shrub should be Bin Laden "Fellow" for "makingn contributions that will continue death and destruction that far surpass any one American President, ever". I hear that Osama has created a retreat among the bucolic poppy fields that have bloomed with joy.
The new resurgence of those bloomificent poppies, so necessary for funding future terrorism, and further depleting the world of human beings through drug addiction, are a contribution that Shrub can look back on, as he deservedly, over time, wins one terrorism prize after another.
I also hear he's in line for the Pol Pot "Suspension of Habeus Corpus Prize". Anyonen hear anything about that?

And maybe a shared Truthieness Prize for Richard “Secret” Cheney, Alberto "Inquisitor" Gonzales, Sean “Spinner” Hannity, Michael “The Spewer” Savage, Ann “scum of the earth” Coulter, Fox News, and the rest of the hate-mongering right-wing lickspittles.

I suspect Gary is doing what you do on the school threads...so I will defend him like I defend you...the 'big picture" point is that Lincoln "started" the war like Bush "started" the war here....Gary will come in and expand on it, i am sure, but Gary is like you...extremely well informed and sometimes uses a shorthand that COULD be misunderstood if someone is looking to nitpick.

No conspiracy at all. South Carlina seceded from the United State, along with several other states. There was no Constituional provision preventing secession. Before the Civil War, the US was considered plural, as in the United States ARE; after the war it was (and is) considered singlular (the United Staes IS). Vermont, apparently, is now stirring to secede...ah, good luck!
If Lincoln had respected states' rights to secede, he would have pulled Federal troops out of Charleston Harbor, and there would have been no act of aggression by either side.
Linclon thought that preservation of the union was worth war. He started it. I think it was the right decision.
