You left out Cafe Pro Bon0 as one of the best moderate priced Italian restaurants in Palo Alto. It matches Il Fornaio but has a cozier charm.

Nothing very romantic about Flea St Cafe, unless you have deep pockets and can ignore the snarky service. And never, NEVER ask for any special preparation!

I concur re Cafe Pro Bono. They're also open later during the week than a lot of other local places.

When it opened Il Fornaio was great, and dependable too. The last several times I have been to Il Fornaio have been far short of superlative ... but not the price. I always regret it every time I give them another chance.

The portions at Il For aio, especially at breakfast, are tiny. No one should leave hungry at those prices!

The restaurants that win all stuff the ballot box. I have had restaurants e-mail me to remind
me to vote for them. So the restaurants on these lists, are usually the cheaters!!

Why is it cheating to ask your customers to vote for you? Isn't that the whole point?

I have to admit I really really still miss Bistro Elan in its old location on California St. where they had the most beautiful outdoor patio and some of the best food I've ever had anywhere in the world. Amazing meals and sublime desserts, I still and probably always will remember Bistro Elan as one of the best restaurants in the world - despite its small and rather crowded dining experience.

I have not been to the new location, and not even sure if it still has the same name, but that was one restaurant that was so completely unique and professional it was worthy of Palo Alto prices, in fact it was a bargain.
