Stanford to replace diplomas over signature mix-up

A mix-up over the signatures on Stanford University diplomas issued during the 2012-13 academic year -- which may be more than 6,000 -- had led the university to offer replacements, according to a spokeswoman.

This seems like oversharing to me, not real news. This is an internal Stanford operations mishap and of zero interest to Palo Alto Online readers like me. Please save the breathless reports about Stanford for something meaningful.

Sounds like a waste of money and an ego problem. How many students really care who sign their diplomas. They just want their name and degree correct.

Stanford did the right thing. This situation could have come to light later on and been embarrassing to them for more than one reason.

Some employers actually ask for and verify diplomas, having seen phonies in the past.
If the wrong signature was there, it would have been dissed as just another phony and the bearer rejected.
