Are you posting here to ask for money or are you starting a new thread for discussion?

The money for this should be raised through the various synagogues, not in a public forum.

However, it is good to know the cost of this. I hope you manage to raise the money. I have a question, is the new JCC part of the Eruv?

If so, Lucas Light & Magic may help out because they are backing the JCC.

Glad to hear the Eruv is up. Sad to hear that fact in Town Square. It will only accelerate the inevitable. It will be vandalized.

In other Eruv threads posters have boasted they will vandalize it..... Remember, this is Liberal Secular Palo Alto.

Hope ?? is right and ILM can provide some funding. Sad truth, you are going to need the $$$ for maintenance.....

This should never have been allowed, it is a clear violation of the separation of church and state, particularly an intrusion when this is allowed, but Chistmas decorations are not.

I would not be surprised to see this vandalized in protest, so you are certainly going to need to check it every week, both before each Sabbath and afterwards to see if it was vandalized during that.

Joe, interesting and sad to hear that you think that militant citizens of PA would vandalize something like an eruv. Any idea who the odious zealots would be? I'm sure the community does check it regularly (I know that is true for other eruvs).

RZ, the difference between an eruv and Christmas decorations or a Buddha is pretty evident. An eruv is nearly invisible; moreover, my understanding is that it does not represent any sacred object or concept - it represents a wall (creeks and cliffs also commonly serve the purpose), so that certain tasks can be performed "indoors." It is practical, not holy. If other religious groups have un-obtrusive, practical requirements, I believe they should be accommodated as well.

I am glad to hear the eruv is up!

Some of the most beautiful buildings and art in the world are of a religious theme or practice. These are to be cherished much more than some of the so called art in Palo Alto.
