Just two weeks in, it's clear that the Eruv is a benefit to many many people.
Over time, the effect wil be profound. We thank Hashem that we were able to
reach this milestone.
Now we need to pay off the debt that was incurred to speed up construction. The
total for the Eruv, which included a whopping $20K in one-time permit fees, was
over $150,000. The debt we still owe involves just under $100,000.
There are five people who have indicated a willingness to give even $10,000 each
but they have asked that their contributions be matched by smaller contributions
from a wide distribution throughout the community. One such $10,000 contribution
has already been matched. Now we must cover the rest.
The levels of giving are the following:
Builder: $10,000 -- there are three donors in this category already, and four
more who have pledged at this level.
Pillar (pole sponsor): $2,500 -- there are already seven donors who contributed
at this level. There are, of course, 44 poles.
Stepping-up: $1,000 -- there have been six contributions at this level
Friend: $500 -- there have been 37 contributions at this level, and another 26
Friends who came in at levels up to $500.
The goal from the beginning has been to have 100 Friends of the Eruv. Because of
the wide benefit, we are looking for wide participation.
Contributions should be sent to the Palo Alto Community Eruv (PACE), a separate
501(c)3.
