Suspicious object at Palo Alto Caltrain station causes delays

A suspicious object that was found at the Palo Alto Caltrain station Monday morning caused a scare and resulted in train delays as police examined the item.

Did someone bring the "object" there on purpose? Or was the object a part of the train station or equipment that was supposed to be there? This article is very confusing.
