My Child goes to STCDC. I tried to find what chemicals were used to control the weeds in the grass. The Palo Alto city Website 's news reports are two years old. From them it looked like they use Roundup which is an extremely dangerous neurotoxin to humans and animals.

I for one, would like to see an updated report and posting on the playground of what was used and the date of last use as well as a Prop 65 Warning Sign.

No surprise thar the city would use roundup. it is cheap, easy to find, and can be bought in large containers.

What is a shock is that it is still legal in California. I know first-hand that it is toxic to dogs, cats, horses, and cattle. Having grown up in a rural community, I have seen it poured straight out of the bottle (!) in order to kill the grub worms and other parasites that can burrow into the skin of cattle (still wanna eat beef?). If used this way on a young calf, Roundup will cause serious neurological damage or death.

Some states, including Connecticut, have banned Roundup. Why "environmentally astute". California has not is beyond me. I do not want MY kids playing on any turf that has been sprayed with it. I have already lost a horse that unwittingly grazed on weeds that had recently been sprayed with the stuff ( it takes a while for the foliage to turn brown). Children cannot be replaced!
