How long do you think it will be before one of these things collapses with a child or several children in it or under it? I can imagine the lawsuits now, the property owner where the tree is located , the contractor that built it, the City for not issuing permits or inspecting it...

$1,500 is a "financial barrier?" This is Palo Alto! And why would a contractor want to even get involved for that little money?

My nephew had a tree house until he was in high school, but when the tree became diseased and had to be cut down, the whole neighborhood had a ceremony for it, and mourned. The neighborhood kids there, all in college now, reminisce about that treehouse being the highlight of their weekends, holidays, and summers: eating PB&Js and Popsicles in it, swinging from the climbing rope, or just chatting with each other. One of them, now a film student at USC, even made movies centered around it!
