Sad News

Original post made by Jon S on May 24, 2013

I received this in my email today, my heart goes out to Ms. Elsbernd and her family friends and the Jordan community.

5/24/13

Hi all,

I want to share with you the sad news that Sara Elsbernd, data secretary at Jordan, passed away unexpectedly last night. The information we received from her partner was that she collapsed at home during the evening and the paramedics were unable to revive her. Greg Barnes, Jordan Principal, notified the staff before school this morning and shared the news with the students via a broadcast during morning announcements. The school has arranged for additional counseling support to be available for students and staff. A message will go out to the community later this morning.

Sara began working in the PAUSD in 2000 and has been a loved staff member at Jordan from the very start. She was active in the CSEA and served as vice president for a number of years.

When we receive information regarding any planned memorial services we will share the information with the PAUSD community.

Regards,
Scott

A child of mine attends Jordan but we did not receive the above email, which is more detailed.

The principal sent us this email:

Dear Jordan Families,

It is with a heavy heart that I share with you news of the unexpected passing of our data secretary Sara Elsbernd. It goes without saying that many of us here at Jordan are deeply saddened by this news.

Faculty and students were informed of the news earlier this morning. The front office staff has ensured that additional counseling services will be available today for those students who are in need of support during this emotional time. I want to thank Terman, JLS, GUNN, and PALY for their outreach and support this morning.

Our thoughts turn toward her family and the support they will need in the coming days.

Please know that while we are mourning our loss today, we are also working to provide a normal transition to the end of the school year.

For those of you who may not know Sara, she was a passionate San Francisco Giants fan. In memory of her, and for all she's meant to the our community, I invite you to join us in wearing orange and black on Tuesday.

Sincerely,

Greg Barnes
