Eshoo to host Saturday meeting on gun control

Original post made on Apr 20, 2013

The topic of gun legislation, and the Senate's failure this week to pass a bill to strengthen the nation's gun laws, will be the subject of a Saturday community meeting hosted by U.S. Rep. Anna Eshoo in Palo Alto.

"...seems like no one was interested. Good."

'Good'?!?!?

Obviously, you are not a family member or friend of one of the 3,700 Americans killed by guns since Sandy Hook/Newtown/Nancy-Adam Lanza.

Equally as obvious, you have no empathy or compassion for those American families.

'Good'?

If I was a Boston family this past week, I would want the legal ability to own guns.

"If I was a Boston family this past week, I would want the legal ability to own guns." Why, that's just palin ignorant, in terms of actual safety AND current law! You DO have the ability to own guns. However, if you have a gun in your house, it is several times more likely to be used on you or a loved one.

-> Fact For every time a gun is used in self-defense in the home, there are 7 assaults or murders, 11 suicide attempts, and 4 accidents involving guns in or around a home. Web Link

Yes, in the tragedy of Boston, 4 were killed, 1 of the 4 by a gun (the police officer.) Having a gun in your Boston home would have done nothing this week, yet is a clear and present danger to you and your loved ones as long as it is in the house.

4 dead in Boston.

Compared to 3,700 Americans killed by guns since Sandy Hook.

*Should have been 'PLAIN ignorant of fact', not 'palin ignorant'

My apologies.

Here's an interesting perspective from the British newspaper, the Guardian. Web Link

Brit: thanks for a link that is far more articulate and fact driven:

"The same day of the marathon bombing in Boston, 11 Americans were murdered by guns. The pregnant Breshauna Jackson was killed in Dallas, allegedly by her boyfriend. In Richmond, California, James Tucker III was shot and killed while riding his bicycle – assailants unknown. Nigel Hardy, a 13-year-old boy in Palmdale, California, who was being bullied in school, took his own life. He used the gun that his father kept at home...

At the same time that investigators were in the midst of a high-profile manhunt for the marathon bombers that ended on Friday evening, 38 more Americans – with little fanfare – died from gun violence."

and just as relevant:

"...It's not just firearms that produce such legislative inaction. Last week, a fertiliser plant in West, Texas, which hasn't been inspected by federal regulators since 1985, exploded, killing 14 people and injuring countless others. Yet many Republicans want to cut further the funding for the agency (OSHA) that is responsible for such reviews. The vast majority of Americans die from one of four ailments – cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and chronic lung disease – and yet Republicans have held three dozen votes to repeal Obamacare, which expands healthcare coverage to 30 million Americans."

I wonder if Eshoo and the anti-gun crowd will be similarly vociferous and head down to Palantir's offices above La Boulange. I'll bet a dollar against a penny that Palantir's tech is at or near the heart of the NSA's recently-divulged domestic spying system.

What's more dangerous - guns owned by law-abiding individuals, or Palantir tech in the hands of government? Clearly the latter, and for PA officials and citizens to be politically active about the one and not the other strongly suggests misalignment of moral compass and activist focus. That's my $0.02. Yours?

CZ: Palinter says their PRISM is financial sw. Do you know different? Web Link

Besides, this isn't Ms. Eshoo's bailiwick, is it? It's more in the court of Udall, Merckley, etc..

Quite the stretch to put this in a gun thread. Didn't have time to start a a new one?
