Interesting article about Munch by Proxy for local involved moms
Schools & Kids, posted by anonymous, a resident of Another Palo Alto neighborhood, on Aug 27, 2007 at 1:39 am

I thought this new article in Psychology Today might be especially interesting to our local, highly-involved moms.

I think our local doctors must be used to intelligent, involved parents, but I've heard of some cases where parents were threatened with child protective services if they balked at a given medical procedure (mostly in the hospital). The point at the end about autism spectrum disorders being the perfect recipe for abuse of MBP diagnoses down the road is downright frightening.

Munchhausen is a very specific diagnosis, based on proof that is very hard to get, but once we get it, is incontrovertible.

Wouldn't worry too much. Moms who make their kids sick in order to play the saintly hero usually get caught, eventually. The rest of us have no worries.
