Woman sentenced for fatal 2006 crash

A 19-year-old Redwood City woman convicted of a misdemeanor in causing the deaths of three people, including two members of the Tongan royal family, in a July 2006 crash on U.S. Highway 101 in Menlo Park was sentenced this morning in San Mateo County Superior Court to two years in county jail.

This was an overly harsh sentence. The jury found her not guilty of the felony charges. The judge is obviously kow-towing to the Tongan community. She should have been given the time already served and suspended sentence.

The sentence is too lenient in my opinion. People died because a girl thought speeding was cool.

The royalty status of victims is not relevant. Life is life.

A harsh (ahem... just) sentence will help potential speeding teenagers to think twice.
