Waldorf Presents: A Renaissance in Education

Original post made by Waldorf School of the Peninsula, Mountain View, on Jan 28, 2013

6 – 9 PM
180 N. Rengstorff Avenue, Mountain View

Waldorf School of the Peninsula invites the public to discover A Renaissance in Education at the school's Mountain View campus on Thursday, February 7 from 6 to 9 PM. A dynamic blend of musical and dramatic performances with artistic and academic displays, this multi-faceted event will showcase the rich interdisciplinary facets of Waldorf middle and high school curriculum. Classroom exhibits will feature main lesson books (student-created, hand-bound texts) on subjects ranging from The Renaissance and Revolutions to Organic Chemistry and Projective Geometry. Art works on display include stone sculptures, clay portraits, woodworking, fabric designs, veil paintings, notan, baskets and more. Throughout the evening, visitors can enjoy student performances of drumming, orchestra, Eurthymy (a form of movement unique to Waldorf education), Shakespearean monologues, and an array of offerings in choral and instrumental music. Light refreshments will be served.

Waldorf School of the Peninsula was established in 1984 by a small group of parents and educators motivated by the great need, in the highly technological area of Silicon Valley, for a school that would address children's hearts and wills, as well as their minds. This whole-child approach, which allows young people to blossom as their physical, moral, emotional and cognitive capacities unfold, is the cornerstone of our philosophy, curriculum and environment. Waldorf education offers children of all ages the opportunity to thrive through a developmentally appropriate academic program integrated with the practical, fine and performing arts. Waldorf School of the Peninsula currently serves approximately 300 students in our toddler through high school programs.
