Cardinal men get Buffaloed in Colorado
Sports, posted by Editor, Palo Alto Online, on Jan 25, 2013 at 8:53 am

The Stanford men's basketball team has seen better days. The Cardinal swept last year's season series with Colorado, winning both games by 20 or more points. Not so Thursday night. The Buffaloes dominated the game to the tune of a 75-54 victory and slipped past Stanford in the Pac-12 standings.

I'm sure coach Dawkins is a great guy and role model for his players BUT as a coach he comes up very short in getting his guys to play hard and with passion, very evident in how the kids play, especially on the road. To win on the road you have to play with a chip on your shoulder and with absolute energy and passion!!!

I miss the days of Montgomery where he always got the most out of his players and his kids played very, very hard on the defensive end and played with passion, with that us against the world mentality.

The Stanford of today is just soft, bottom line!!! ***I would be very interested to see how Stanford practices on a daily basis and if everything is done game-like and with a purpose and passion. Practices is where tone and culture of a team is built.

I want to add again, I'm sure Dawkins is a very good man and role model but as a head coach his teams come up way to short in terms of passion and energy and playing hard. I'm sure A.D. at Stanford is beginning to realize this.

It is what it is!

Time for Dawkins to move on. He has never met or exceeded expectations. At this point the team has lost about 3 or 4 games they should have won. Making the NIT tournament and missing out on the big dance this year is not acceptable.

I have to agree with Stanford Fan. Like I said before, I'm sure Coach D is a great guy, great father etc... but as a DI college coach no passion or energy from his teams.

This is just an opinion but is supported by facts, record of his teams, his body language on bench, passion and energy displayed by his players. He often has good record because of cream puffs he schedules in pre season.

Again, all just an observation but standards are so high now with Football, Baseball, etc at Stanford it is really the TRUTH and JUST HONEST.

With Harboughs passion and energy I'll bet he could get that team playing very hard! A lot of coaching is preparation and motivating and getting kids to go through a wall for you, buying into the system. I just do not see that at Stanford right now in basketball.
