The top priority for our council should be to pass a mandatory occupancy law. A concerned citizen, on another thread, has expressesed concern that "foreigners" are buying homes in PA using, in his opinion without any proof, illicit funds. He is also concerned that these houses remain empty, thus denying him neighbors.
The city must act. To curb this scourge, the city must act by passing a law mandating that all homes be occupied a certain number of days each year.
Our city has never been worried about free market issues or private property rights, so it is natural that they step in and force people to live In homes x days a year. No more excess vacation or long trips for our residents. Better find a renter for that property soon or else you willbe in violation!!
I am sure all the "civic minded" citiZens will line up behind this measure

@Not an issue, what other monikers have you used on PA Online? Reading your posts on other subjects might help me understand your viewpoint here. (Though "anonymous", I have always stuck with just this one member name through the years.)
Tangential to this foreign ownership issue, I will note that other state governments do indeed regulate who can own land, particularly farmland in the midwest. Governments can and will act when they perceive a threat to the economy.
If some multinational corporation began buying up block after block of Palo Alto homes, the Realtors and sellers and tax collectors might think it's great, but the rest of us would keep a concerned eye on it. It's ridiculous to say that it's none of our business who our neighbors are.

It may not matter to the City Council as long as all taxes and utilities are being paid. It may however be of more interest to PAUSD as students may be registered as living there.
