What's up with the Mitchell Park Library
Palo Alto Issues, posted by Middlefield driver, a resident of the Midtown neighborhood, on Jan 5, 2013 at 9:43 am

I haven't seen much work going on at the Mitchell Park Library. Does anyone have a status update? I can't wait to see the final building. When is it slated to open? Have they fixed the problem with the weather proofing?

Good question.

There appears to have been very little activity over the past few months, from my observations passing during the work day.

Of course there's very little construction going on because the City has threatened to sue the contractor. My guess is the builder is PO'd, I'd be too in his position.

So what, it's not going to be completed on time and it's going over budget. Is the City so naive they don't realize this goes on all the time.

So, we may need to use the library at Cubberley for a few extra months, I can handle that. Anyway the weather is lousy to be working outside.

Contractors, especially in Palo Alto, always drag out the work as long as possible to make more money. If they are building for themselves, it is finished pretty darn fast. If they build for a client, it can be years and years. Happens all over this town all the time with private homes. Merely complaining does nothing, you have to use legal action.
