Holiday Fund: Giving hope to the homeless

Original post made on Dec 16, 2012

Tucked at the end of an industrial lot, East Palo Alto's only homeless shelter occupies an unassuming warehouse that's been transformed into a refuge for the city's homeless. ==B Related stories:==

The Homeless need IMMEDIATE REAL HOUSING, REAL TRAINING, and REAL JOBS; the 12-step religious AA/NA cult Drug & Alcohol Merry-Go-Round has got to come to a halt

The problem is, this is usually false hope. Giving people false hope is cruel.

And to the purveyors of negativity who have weighed in thus far, you've done exactly what to personally help alleviate the problem of homelessness??

I remember Synanon, which did a lot, and got these folks into a very productive situation. A lot of talk, talk sessions, along with assigned jobs. No excuses. Unfortunately, it was a socialist/fascist command society. Scary stuff (rattlesnakes in mail boxes, etc.). Maybe that is the way to go, though.

What do you think? The current model is certainly NOT working.
