Stanford heads to Rose Bowl after 27-24 win
Sports, posted by Editor, Palo Alto Online, on Nov 30, 2012 at 11:19 pm

Cardinal will face Wisconsin on January 1

Jordan Williamson made a 36-yard field goal with 6:49 left to play and the Stanford defense made it hold up as the Cardinal earned a berth in the Rose Bowl game for the first time since 2000 with a 27-24 victory over UCLA in the Pac-12 Championship game on a rainy Friday night in Stanford Stadium.

is this like going back to previous glorious seasons? do that many people follow stanford football these days? good luck and change the bcs standings back to how these bowl games were decided before. make the best of good football results

I saw some highlights on TV. The stadium looked half empty. Are Palo Altans fair weather fans only? Or did the Friday afternoon start time cut into busy Silicon Valley work (or party) schedules?

Stanford escaped with a win. I hope they play better at the Rose Bowl than they did last night.

Resident - We were thinking about going, but when I checked, the lowest price was $80 per ticket. Prices were set by NCAA. Students could get in for $20. $160 to sit in the rain was too much for us. Not everyone in Palo Alto has a huge entertainment budget.

I agree it looked bad on TV to see the low attendance. Blame it on the prices, weather, and the fact that the game was televised.

Maybe the reason people weren't at the game was the same reason resident wasn't at the game, whatever that was.

Wow-so much negativity! I was there and it was FANTASTIC! Way to go Stanford!
