I also hear the helicopters this morning and would like to know what's going on.

I found this comment from a story on ktvu:

traffic is stopped on northbound 101, and also the embarcadero/oregon ramp is closed.

3 NB 101 lanes blocked. Ramp closed. 1 fatality, 2 critical injuries. Solo CHP also involved. No other details except accident was over an hour ago just before 7am.

traffic reports suggesting to avoid (find alternate route) on 101 NB for the next several hours. Tail back stretching miles.

Horrific accident involving a police car and a family. One fatality so far and two in critical condition. Went over on the footpath over the highway to see for myself, car spun around and skidded about 150 yards.

Horrifying - I'm so sorry to hear this. PAAS Facebook page suggests avoiding E. Bayshore, too. Too bad the folks stuck in traffic can't take the surface streets. At least now the chopper is gone.

Off Embarcadero exit, car hit Highway Patrol car. Two daughters were thrown from car and died; one was getting married in India in January. Mom is in critical condition. Dad was driving them home from Gilroy Outlet Mall. 20 minutes and they would have been home to San Bruno. I'm guessing fatigue got to him. They should ban the crazy Midnite to 6AM shopping.
