Anyone hear an explosion--sort of a sonic boom sound, VERY loud, about an hour ago? Anyone know what it was?

This is what the PAPD facebook page posted

Palo Alto Police Department

Did you see a "fireball" in the sky or hear a boom tonight around 8 p.m.?

Our 24-hour dispatch center received a handful of calls about it, and initial news reports indicate that it could have been a fireball produced by a meteor as it crossed above the Bay Area. Regardless of what it might have been, we have not received any reports of damage in Palo Alto.

The news channel pages on facebook are posting similar. Friend PAPD facebook page, they give useful information.

"Not the apocalypse?" Surely you jest!

Just watching the news and people's photos of the fireball. Mother Nature is pretty damn awe inspiring.
