Primary elections Issues Beyond Palo Alto, posted by Walter_E_Wallis, a resident of the Midtown neighborhood, on Aug 8, 2007 at 4:29 pm
The silly contest to see which state can have the earlier primary has gone too far. It is time for the parties to show some maturity and establish a way to evenly divide the perceived benefit of the first primary. I propose the following: Break the nation into ten groups of states each. Each Group to be one large state and 4 progressively smaller states. Each group would be first on one primary, with the first rotated through the groups. Below is my suggested groupings.
1. California New Jersey Minnesota Mississippi New Hampshire
2. Texas Virginia Colorado Arkansas Hawaii
3. New York Massachuset Alabama Kansas Rhode island
4. Florida Washington S Carolina Utah Montana
5. Illinois Indiana Louisiana Nevada Delaware
6. Pennsylvania Arizona Kentucky N Mexico S Dakota

Really, I don't see why we can't just have our primary now... ( sarcasm alert).
I like Australia's system.. they start and finish, all within a couple months. None of this absurd politicizing of EVERY thing for 2 years before an election..no voter fatigue.
I think the earlier we start, the fewer people will vote. It is like the previews for the movies that now start a YEAR before the movie is released, and give away all the highlights in the previews. I almost never want to see the movie any more. I am sick of the concept when it comes out.
Walter, nobody is going to be reasonable about this until the absurdities become evident after the fact. Just like the silly voter machines. The panic over hanging chads led to electronic machines that are now completely fallible and can be made fraudulent easily.. Don't waste your time.

It is absurd that this country spends so much time and money on an election which is still over a year away. Who knows what the big issues will be by then and what will have happened in the meantime. It is for reasons like these that I will not be taking out citizenship.
