Alcohol Consumption in Bowden Park Crimes & Incidents, posted by Jan Hutcheson, a resident of the Old Palo Alto neighborhood, on Sep 28, 2012 at 8:05 pm
On Thursday, September 27, between 3:30 and 6:00 pm, ten women and one man drank 8+ bottles of wine in the presence of more than 25 children in Bowden Neighborhood Park-- on the playground itself! Unfortunately, at least twenty of these children belonged to the ten women, who seemed oblivious to the fact that children under the age of three were drinking residual wine from the plastic cups left on a low table within their easy reach.
At least two people called the police from their cell phones, as this was child endangerment. Yet by 6:00 pm, no police had arrived. These people should have been cited for drinking alcohol in public and child endangerment, if not arrested. Do the police not take child endangerment seriously???

Is no one outraged by the fact that very small children were drinking leftover wine out of plastic cups that were easily within their reach.? Is no one shocked by the fact that PA police took two hours to answer four calls from witnesses about illegal drinking of alcohol in a neighborhood park,as well as child endangerment? Is no one upset by the fact that the slow response time allowed the negligent parents to get away with this, and possibly do it again?? What is wrong with our (expensive) community?

What is really sad is that all of these supposedly well-educated people do not seem to think it important that babies were drinking wine, which is 13-17% alcohol.
Any pediatrician will tell you what a harmful thing to the brain that is, and yet Palo Altans think it is overreacting.
