2nd major crash on Hwy 101 in Palo Alto in last 2 days
Crimes & Incidents, posted by resident, a resident of the Midtown neighborhood, on Sep 23, 2012 at 11:16 am

KTVU reports there was a crash with major injuries on northbound Hwy 101 in Palo Alto this morning: Web Link

There was an overturned car on northbound Hwy 101 near Embarcadero Road just a couple of days ago.

Were both of these crashes due to those $100 million boondoggle ramps being built on Hwy 101 right now? Who's bright idea was it to waste such a huge amount of money on a project with minimal benefits and lots of human casualties in the meantime?

I agree. Highway 101 is very dangerous at present. Oregon/Embarcadero, San Antonio, Charleston/Rengstorff ramps are all treacherous both off and on, north and south.

If someone gets killed, I wouldn't be at all surprised. I have seen several near misses and one vehicle hitting a post at the sb Charleston on ramp. Signs saying short merge do not help.

This is something that perhaps the tv stations may get better news out about.

I agree with Driver, parts of 101 are treacherous, and one of the most treacherous is that Embarcadero-Oregon interchange, both north and southbound. Drivers not well-familiarized with it often get confused and make last-second changes in their turnoff, cutting other drivers off. Many drivers have a hard time getting from an in er lane to an outer lane to access the interchange.

The on and of cramps for San Antonio, Rengstorff, and especially Charleston cause driver confusion, resulting in driver error, again unless the driver is well-familiarized with the area.

It would be a temporary mess to change the current layout, but the current danger is considerable and should. Pt be allowed to continue. Things should not have been laid

Out like this in the first place.
