Bill Moggridge, the co-founder of Palo Alto-based design firm IDEO, died Sept. 8 of cancer. He was 69. Moggridge was the director of the Smithsonian Institution's Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum in New York, N.Y., and is credited with designing the first laptop computer, the GRiD Compass. This is very sad news. I first met Bill in 1990, and interacted with him when I worked at IDEO later on. He was always kind and thoughtful, beyond his professional accomplishments. He'll be missed by many people all over the world.
