The lock up and shut up policy is working very well for the city of Palo Alto

The headline should be the reason that the burglaries are happening, not that there's an increase. The increase follows the reason, duh. Lock up your stuff, people! I just discovered that a friend in PA hills has been routinely leaving a door unlocked. Yeah, like you want to walk in on a burglary in progress at your home where neighbors aren't that close. Scary.

This smells like an attempt by PDs to increase their budgets and therefore golden pensions.

The fact is that violent crime in the US has decreased by 50% in the last 20 years.

In Palo Alto we have 70% more police and firemen than we actually need

We need to get the PAPD out of their desks and on to the streets -particularly patrolling University Avenue on foot.

We need to consolidate the PA Fire Department with Menlo Park and decrease the payroll by 50 to 70%

I just can't believe people don't lock their doors. I grew up locking our doors even in the 70s.

I am grateful for law enforcement and firemen. They are here when we need them. They are risking their lives for us. It's disrespectful to insult them and those who do are too cowardly to switch jobs with them.

People should lock their doors
Police are important and should be respected.

That said, there is clearly something wrong with how PAPD is being run. What is the police chief's plan? They don't need more budget they need better management.
