It turns out I'm going to be helping to coach my 7 year old son's soccer team. Apart from playing recreationally in the neighborhood as a kid, I don't have any real organized team playing experience. I know that probably doesn't matter too much coaching in AYSO at this age group and that I'll be fine helping out with drills and practices for the kids.

Still, I was thinking it would be neat to get some more actual playing experience, for fun as well as getting some more experience that would help me be a better coach in the future. I've always noticed the adult games going on in Mitchell Park on Sunday for the PA Adult Soccer League.

My concern is that as pretty much a beginner, even the "B" league might be too intense for me. I've heard from a couple people that the league is dominated by former college players, ridiculously skilled Europeans, and the like. I'd like to go out and play, have fun, and learn more about the game, but it won't be fun for me or my teammates if the league is really for very skilled players, even at the "B" level.

Can any of you tell me about your experiences in the league and give me an honest take on just how competitive the "B" league is? Also, what is the general mood of the games? Is it extremely aggressive with lots of elbowing and people almost getting into fights, or is it a little more laid back and friendly (you can probably tell which one I'd prefer)?
