That's $1800 per desktop. Why does an elementary school need an $1800 computer? I hope PAUSD gets a substantial discount on Macs. For $5400 the school district could have gotten ten medium-performance PCs, with specs greatly exceeding any demands anyone but the IT person at Palo Verde could have placed on them, rather than three overpriced, non-upgradeable, quickly out-dated Macs.

Some more disclosure: I own an iPhone and iPad. But that price is just appalling.

It seems like the schools need better security...how many of these stories have we read?

I hope the computers are equipped with tracking so that the police can recover the computers and find the criminals who stole from schoolchildren.

Administrators of these schools need to be held responsible for their failure to secure these assets. There is no excuse for this. It continues to happen all across the school district and can be PREVENTED!!!

Why aren't the computers in a locked room that has no window access? Other schools outside of PAUSD do this. This is not a new problem. When will the PAUSD staff understand that they need to keep technology stuff out of site.

I suspect, since these are desktop pcs, that they are not for the kids' use but are the office or library pcs. Can this be clarified? And does this mean that student records may have been compromised?

Outrageous - PAUSD, PLEASE improve your security measures with these luxury items. I find it incredibly offensive to me as a taxpayer that these electronics are treated to cavalierly. Partial blame goes to PAUSD here -- and similar thefts have previously occurred, so the district needs to learn from these unfortunate events and be more responsible with district assets.

Superintendent Skelly has a Harvard degree. There were computer thefts last summer. Maybe he tests well but has no common sense.

Why is the City posting Palo Alto schools maps online with maps and directions right to where high value equipment is located? I am curious to know if posting maps to where children and our valuable equipment is contributes to our crime issue?

These are desktop computers, the kids use laptops, and not the most current ones (they aren't really of great value to thieves). These are probably adminstrative computers, and yes, I wonder if there is a security compromise?
