Will this year be a non-election year for city and PAUSD? Palo Alto Issues, posted by Resident, a resident of Another Palo Alto neighborhood, on Jul 18, 2012 at 8:56 am
It is beginning to sound like we will have less candidates than vacancies on our city council and PAUSD?
If this is the case does that mean that the declared candidates get in and we have empty seats for the remainder? Can anyone fill me in on the protocol please?

No, but this is the time to reduced the Palo Alto City Council from nine to seven members. Seven would be just as efficient as nine and there would be less talk, talk, talk and meetings lasting 'till 1:00 AM.

Does this worry anyone other than me?
I am not sure if we can reduce the number of council members without changing the charter. But what happens if there are not 9 people willing to be on the council?
From my reckoning we have two declared and two not seeking re-election. Is this what we want?
PAUSD is in an even sorrier state with no declared candidates at this stage. Or have I missed some news?

For the school board, there will be 3 seats up for election. Heidi Emberling is declared - Web Link. She is enthusiastic and has an education background, though she seems more like a "do-er" than a "governor." We'll see.
I expect that only 1-2 of the incumbents will run. That said, there seem to be no lack of folks with strong views about how the schools and/or the school board should run out there.

I'm still waiting for 'marrol' to announce his candidacy for City Council. Our Greatest Expert on Civic Financial Responsibility shouldn't just hide all that talent and concern behind a computer alias. Or is he just content to sit back and lecture everyone on what should be done?
