A 76-year-old PG&E gas-transmission line scheduled for replacement starting June 11 could cause traffic delays, noise and foul odors in Palo Alto through the summer, Pacific Gas & Electric has announced.

Sounds like a huge hassle, OTOH good thing we found out about all this so it could be repaired before the pipes were weakened or damaged further over time. It's been interesting to hear about varying practices (initial installation, inspection, records, status) for these important pipelines...

I suppose it is better to screw up half the city for the summer than KABOOM. Is PG&E providing any accommodations to the city, such as increasing public transit during the construction period?

They did this in front of our apartment on Alma St. some time back. It was supposed to last weeks, but ended up lasting about five months. Those were very loud and congested times!
