I hate all the 4 way stop signs in the neighborhood of Churchill, but the one place it is needed, outside Paly, it is neglected. It is a nightmare trying to get out of Paly turning either way for drivers and pedestrians trying to cross. Remember, a lot of the drivers are permit holders only or newly licensed.
It would make a lot of sense to put in a 4 way stop here. Gunn has lights and they have even changed the striping there in the past year. Paly has a dangerous entrance at both Embarcardero and Churchill and something should be done to both.

That, and a right turn lane at El Camino.
I brought this to the attention of our previous traffic "engineer" who scoffed at it with his oh so Palo Alto attitude that traffic was to be discouraged, not facilitated.
The following is a cut and paste of a post explaining why a 4 way stop at Paly's Churchill entrance is not a good idea:

A 4-way stop at Castilleja/Churchill will never happen, for the same reason there's no left turn allowed from Churchill to Mariposa. It's a safety issue because of the potential for traffic backing up on the Caltrain tracks. Imagine driving north on Alma and making a left turn on a green arrow onto Churchill. You get through most of the intersection and suddenly must stop on the tracks. The 2 or 4 or however many cars behind you are unaware of the traffic backup until it's too late for them, too. Then a train comes. The cars behind panic because they're in the middle of the Alma intersection so they're not going to back up for you, and the traffic in front is barely moving because of a 4-way stop and pedestrians. What are your options?
Gridlock near train tracks should be avoided at all costs.

As a relative frequent driver of Churchall what is really needed is a right turn land at ElCamino. The fire hydrant would have to be moved, but there is plenty of land there to add a relatively short turn lane
