Season is just strange
Sports, posted by Editor, Palo Alto Online, on Jul 18, 2007 at 12:45 am

It's possible there have been better Palo Alto American Legion baseball teams in the program's long history. And, perhaps, there have been more-talented players.

The strangeness continues. Tuesday night's Legion game was a schedule seven inning game at 7pm in Burlingame.

Palo Alto got two quick runs in the first, and then another in the fourth, but Burlingame chipped away and tied the game 3-3 in the sixth on an error. Only a nice throw from left field by Evan Warner kept the go-ahead run from scoring.

In the seventh Danny Esquivel relieved Kyle Einfalt who had gone six strong innings.

Danny might have reasonably expected to finish the game on the mound, and in fact, he did. What no one expected is that despite many baserunners on both sides the game would stay scoreless for the next six innings. In the twelfth Burlingame had a runner at third with one out, but Esquivel pulled another Houdini act to get out of it without a score.

Finally Palo Alto broke through for three runs in the thirteenth, and won 6-3. At 1030pm.

It has truly been a strange and wonderful season.
