Car drivers do see pedestrians, but they just don't care. They have to bully their way through those "right turns on red lights" because if they don't, the need to wait at least 30 seconds for the next green light.When you're making $100/hour in salary, those 30 seconds of lost time add up to real money.

Left turns are even more exciting because if they have to speed through that tiny gap in oncoming cars and then they are going to fast and they know that pedestrians will hear their squealing rubber before they plow through the crosswalk.

I bet if pedestrians started carrying baseball bats when they were crossing the streets, then cars would give them a wide berth. They already see you, but now they will fear the consequences.

I encounter a lot more pedestrians crossing on red lights and almost getting hit than cars running red lights and almost hitting pedestrians.

No way an ad for the union--pehaps a request that the City

put more resources into University Avenue public safety and maybe

less on California Ave beautification.
