It's a no Brainer.

The City agreed years ago to give the School District approx $7 million a year To preserve the site for a future school need.

Now the school district needs a future school site.

So the city should feel free to curtain the payments and put that Money toward maintaining the infrastructure for the rest of the City.

That amount would also be enough to fund Certificates of Participation for a new Public Safety Building, as the Blue Ribbon Infrastructure Commission recommended.

Like I said---- It's a No-Brainer...

Blogger: There is one big problem with your analysis. The School District has said they do not want Cubberley back to be used as a school for another five to ten years. Whose going to pay for the site until they need it as a school facility?

$7M annual savings would possibly cover the study, architect, design phases of a new public safety building. Construction phase would most likely triple in cost. How about taking the $7M and put it towards the Hetch Hetchy project instead of raising water rates to cover the City inability to maintain infrastructure? Besides, the school district does not pay for maintenance done at cubberley. The City does which is an additional cost savings.

"For most citizens, there's not a clear differentiation in their minds about who's doing what," Mitchell said. "They want us to work together for the common best interests of residents rather than, 'This is in the best interest of the school district' or 'This is in the best interest of the city.'" And that folks says it all about city management. What is best for ME instead of employees, education, and community. Council is being so misguided by city staff.
