Ms Eshoo's law requires that, within nine years, the FCC reallocate and auction spectrum in the radio 470 – 512 MHz "T-Band" used by public-safety and business entities. All users will then have two years to relocate from this band. Auction proceeds will be used to pay the cost of the public-safety build out of the new national broadband network.
Palo Alto's primary and secondary police dispatch frequencies, as well as those of Menlo Park, Mountain View, Los Altos Police Departments and BAYMACS 480 mutual aid frequency will be sold to the highest commercial bidder. Since this band is also used by many large metropolitan public safety agencies including Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago it's unlikely there will be sufficient funds to rebuild all of these radio systems using federal money. Where will the Chief and other agencies on the Peninsula find the money?
Sad to say, it looks like Chief Burns was duped by Ms Eshoo into supporting what's obviously another corporate welfare gift by our government.
