Caltrain has announced that nighttime training of new train engineers may disrupt the sleep of nearby residents for several weeks. The training started on April 11 and runs through May 24.

It's a shame that there isn't a simulator for train engineers like there is for pilots--so that these sorts of inconvenient training sessions could be reduced to shorter periods and not be so disruptive to our lives.

Electrifying Caltrain without grade separations will do absolutely nothing to silence the train horns and bells and the gate crossing bells. The present plan to electrify Caltrain only has vague wording about separating select crossings on the peninsula. Electrification of Calttain is generally a good thing, but without grade separations everywhere, is not the panacea many believe it to be.
