Our family is anxiously awaiting the 7th installment of Harry Potter. We have pre-paid for our copies at Kelper's (of course) and look forward to the party.

My 18 year old daughter who has been one of the biggest fans since she discovered the first two books at age 10, has heard that there are leaks all over the internet so she won't be going on line all this week. She is planning to be at Borders all day Friday then looking for an all night restaurant to go to read. Denny's is gone, so it is either Happy Donuts or McDonalds unless someone can come up with an alternative. There will be a large group with her, ex-Paly.

Can't wait for this book! The series has been exceptional, and it will be rather sad to see it conclude. But what an exciting final chapter this will be!

What do people think about Kepler's not offering any kind of discount for this book? I really want to support Kepler's, but given that Borders is offering a 40% discount, it'll cost me $15 more to buy it from Kepler's. I'm a student and that's not an insignificant amount of money for me. Is this really a wise move on their part? I can't believe that such a big price difference won't affect their sales, even though this area is affluent and there's a lot of loyalty towards Kepler's.

I know the Keplers books are expensive but they are doing a big event in conjunction with it. I think the event will be fun and my kids are planning to attend. While the 40% off is nice, I'm willing to support Keplers because I think they're really into it. I was there today and the guy behind the counter said he was coming dressed like Snape - he seemed genuinely excited.

Harry Potter Day is finally here (at least that's what it is being called in my house).
My sons (8 and 11) are going with their grandmother to Barnes and Noble in Redwood City for the box opening at 12:01 a.m. tomorrow morning. To say they are excited is an understatement! While I would like to find out for myself what happens to the boy wizard, I am sure that by 12:01 p.m. Saturday, I will know exactly what happened in the book! They are that excited to get it and read it. We'll see if they sleep tonight.
I will, however, try to stay away from Internet reports and TV news tonight where there may be spoilers. Even if I don't get the end of the story first hand, at least I will be able to enjoy it through their eyes and their excitement for the story.

We were at Kepler's yesterday and the lovely young woman who helped us (crisis! Our puppy ate our daughter's wand!) said she is coming dressed as Tonks, and said she HOPED we would be there. I love the enthusiasm. Paying $15 extra forthe book and getting a party for our 4 family members seems fair enough. But I understand others who just want to buy the book and don't want to spend extra $$. Either way, ok. I just want to get to midnight.

This is definitely a day of mixed emotions. My daughter was given copies of books 1 and 2 in the summer of 99 and she loved them from the start. She was 10, the same age as Harry in book 1. She has anxiously waited for each movie and each book and always knew the last book would be a sad ending to her childhood. She has grown up with Harry, reading each snippet on Mugglenet and elsewhere, dressed up as each character, and becoming an expert on his life.
Yes, we are sad that the last book is coming out. Sad because the anticipation will be over. Sad, because this time tomorrow she will have read it (spending the night at Happy Donuts with friends) and there will be no more. Yes, her childhood that began long before she heard of Harry Potter, will culminate with the release of the book and the end of an era.
I am sure that there are millions more like her. We will definitely be in mourning.

As usual, I expect the media will be at Keplers for their party. However, there will be as many mad teenagers outside Borders in PA also. I believe Happy Donuts is the venue of choice for all night reading parties.
