Romney Campaign says Mitt is an Etch-A-Sketch
Issues Beyond Palo Alto, posted by RJ, a resident of the Downtown North neighborhood, on Mar 21, 2012 at 12:42 pm

After having a great week, winning Illinois and picking up the moderate establishment endorsement of Jeb Bush, the ongoing disaster that is the Romney campaign makes bigger news:

* CNN: Is there a concern that Santorum and Gingrich might force the governor to tack so far to the right it would hurt him with moderate voters in the general election?

* ERIC FEHRNSTROM (ROMNEY CAMPAIGN SPOKESMAN): Well, I think you hit a reset button for the fall campaign. Everything changes. Its almost like an Etch A Sketch. You can kind of shake it up and restart all over again.

After the shock, the mind-boggling bafflement subsides, please read on.

Any literate person that has followed the Republican primaries is aware of Mitt Romney's soft, flexible positions and ability as a moderate to change positions on a dime. Actual statements confirming the obvious make Governor Romney and his campaign unqualified to be the party's nominee.

It's time for this embarrassment to back away and let the voters decide on a conservative as the nominee. Mitt has spent over $100 million thus far buying votes and yet has rarely exceeded a 50% vote of any given primary. Exit polls indicate Romney typically only wins certain segments of the vote - affluent voters with incomes over $100,000 per year, moderates and those willing to subvert their principles for a nominee that may have a better chance of winning.

My question to fellow Conservatives of the Peninsula: Given the distaste I've read here and elsewhere for our previous candidates McCain (a moderate who couldn't win) and Bush (biggest spending "conservative" of all time,) are you satisfied with another moderate to be the standard bearer? A moderate to liberal nominee that probably can't win anyway, given all the ammunition given to the democrat party over the last three months?

I submit the correct answer is not a 'no', rather HELL NO!

Looking at the remaining candidates, I further suggest that the only logical choice, barring a draft at the convention, is Senator Santorum. A man of conviction and principle.

Not an Etch-A-Sketch.

BREAKING: Jeb Bush endorses the Etch-A-Sketch.

Takes one to know one.

This board has started to get very cluttered with a lot of these anti-Romney postings. I think its because they are starting to realize that the the hollow enthusiasm of 2008 has evaporated, and the 2012 race is going to be close...maybe a little too close, and its certainly not out of the question that Obama might lose!

TJ, I hope you are correct about Obama. Are you actually FOR Mitt Romney?????

How can you be for a man who's not 'for' anything? Please reconsider the Senator.

hey RJ

Mitt Etch A Sketch Romney is trying to rewrite history with his etchasketch pad

"I keep hearing the president say he's responsible for keeping the country out of a Great Depression," Romney said at a town hall in Arbutus, Maryland. "No, no, no, that was President George W. Bush and [then-Treasury Secretary] Hank Paulson."

Who knew?

Your senator is on the bandwagon

"Santorum spokeswoman is handing out etch-a-sketches outside the Romney event in Maryland"

What?! An honest man on Romney's staff? Fire him immediately!!!

Etch-A-Sketch is just the corporate way of saying flipflop, right? These one-percenters use different language from real Americans.

Etch-A-Sketch stock price tripled today. I wonder if Romney's buddy bought stock ahead of his name dropping? Does that count as insider trading? Bloomberg business news: Web Link

"Flip flopper"

"Multiple Choice Mitt"

"Myth Romney"

Etch-A-Sketch?

That's the killer, the one that will stick, because it plays into the narrative that is Willard Mitt Romney.

Looks at the list of those who have called Romney an outright Liar - Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, John McCain (2008), the list goes on, with dedicated flip flop websites. Politicians NEVER outright call another a liar, they always couch the phrase defensively.

They know Mitt.

But Etch-A-Sketch will stick.

That will make Mitt unelectable. Take away Mitt's self applied "most electable" label and what do you have? an Etch-A-Sketch telling everyone that he is a severely conservative candidate that once donated to Planned Parenthood, was pro-life, wrote ObamaCare, supported mandates, and the list goes on and on. Look up all 30 plus flip flops yourself.

Reset with an Etch-A-Sketch.

Take away the electability argument, because Mitt can no longer beat Obama. The commercials write themselves. Mitt knows - he got to where he is on $100 million in negative advertising against Santorum, Gingrich, Perry, etc...

Take away the electability argument, because Mitt can no longer beat Obama.

Can't beat Obama. Suddenly Senator Santorum looks far better to real conservatives, doesn't he?

Examples:

"CBS's Early Show this morning (Jan 2012):

NORAH O'DONNELL, to NEWT GINGRICH, on CBS "Early Show": "I have to ask, are you calling Mitt Romney a liar?"

GINGRICH: "Yes."

O'DONNELL: "You are calling Mitt Romney a liar?"

GINGRICH: "Well you seemed shocked by it, yes. I mean, what else could you say? ... I just think he ought to be honest with the American people and try to win as the real Mitt Romney, not try to invent a poll-driven, consultant-guided version who goes around with talking points. "

-----

SANTORUM: I can`t trust him (Romney) to tell the truth about what he

advocates.

-----

MIKE HUCKABEE (R), FORMER ARKANSAS GOVERNOR: (about Mitt) If a man`s dishonest to

obtain a job, he`ll be dishonest on the job.

Mitt's a liar, says all the conservatives quoted above.

Now, along comes Romney's wife, Ann Romney who says her husband needs to unzip and show us the real Mitt:

radio interview: “And one of the things, Ann Romney, that folks talk about with your husband, Mitt Romney, and I’ve seen him in casual conversation-He comes off very smooth and okay. But sometimes he comes off stiff. Do you have to fight back some criticism, like ‘My husband isn’t stiff, OK?’”

Laughing, Ann Romney responded, “Well, you know, I guess we better unzip him and let the real Mitt Romney out because he is not!”

«I kid you not»

Here it is in black and white.

I dare any conservative to watch this whole video (90sec) and tell me that Mitt Romney is the best the Republicans can do in 2012.

He's going to get creamed for all the lies and flipflops. You won't be able to watch a thing in October with out seeing a replaying of one version of another of Mitt's multiple realities...
