Rumor check: Kidnapping near Greer Park?
Schools & Kids, posted by Mother , a resident of the Midtown neighborhood, on Feb 29, 2012 at 4:53 pm

My daughter just called to tell me she's afraid to bike home because a friend of hers told her about a kidnapping today near Greer Park.... It sounds pretty bogus to me, but just out of curiosity, has anyone heard anything about this?

Nothing was reported in the Palo Alto police log (Web Link) about a kidnapping near Greer Park on Wednesday. An Amber Alert (Web Link) would also be sent out in the event of a kidnapping involving a child, and to the best of our knowledge an Amber Alert was not distributed Wednesday afternoon regarding a kidnapping in that area.

I heard that about 3:20 on Wednesday, PAPD received a report that a child near an elementary school was approached by an individual. This person apparently attempted to get the child into their vehicle. The child did not comply and the individual left. PAPD arrived within a minute or two, but PAPD was unable to locate this person.

A short time later, PAPD received a report that a person resembling the description was at Greer Park. However, further investigation revealed that the person at Greer Park was not the individual PAPD was seeking.

No child was kidnapped. It is possible that the case is still open and why PAPD hasn't commented so far.
