Fourth consecutive 'Spare the Air' alert issued

A fourth consecutive winter Spare the Air Day has been issued for the Bay Area on Saturday (Dec. 10) because of continued unhealthy air quality in the region.

Air pollution was especially bad today, even here in Palo Alto, which is usually better than the south bay. Please do your part for all our kids health. Don't light up until the next rain storm helps to clean the air. Thank you.

Why didn't last week's huge wind storm that blew through Northern California and the western US clear the air? Does that much new pollution accumulate in less than one week?

Yes, pollution does accumulate quickly when there is no rain and no wind.
