I am the head JV coach at Gunn, and a varsity assistant and statistician.
The print edition of this article included a snarky remark that Gunn would not be playing this week once the CCS playoff pairings were announced. That remark showed a deep misunderstanding of how the teams that make CCS are seeded.
Although Gunn did not have a stellar league season, our out-of-league record was well over .500, which qualified us for the CCS playoffs. We generated enough power points simply by competing in the SCVAL De Anza Division, which is considered an A+ league by CCS, that we earned the 8th seed in Division I.
Please read up on the rules regarding qualification for CCS before you make those kinds of statements in the future. Thank you.
